Welcome to the first part of the new NCVO website. While we finish building it, you will find the rest of our help and guidance on our existing site.

What is it

A way of making sure people who come to your website, facebook group or other online location can easily see how to donate money to you.

Good reasons to try donation buttons

  • You have a website that is designed to raise awareness and expect lots of people interested in your cause to visit it
  • You are using a platform that gives you a simple process for donating online and a donation button widget that you can add to other things

Family Life design their site for their supporters and funders. It has information focused on why you should support them and a donate button. They have a separate site for their advice, which they focus on the parents and carers they’re trying to support. This site doesn’t have a donate button.

Key advice

  • If you use a donate button people will expect to be able to give money online. They won’t want to fill in a paper form or phone up after pressing it.
  • You need to think about where you put these buttons. Are the people who visit the site people who will donate or people you are trying to help?
