Welcome to the first part of the new NCVO website. While we finish building it, you will find the rest of our help and guidance on our existing site.

What is it

Not a form of fundraising but a way to make extra money when you are fundraising. Uk tax payers can tell you that they want to add gift-aid to their donations and you then claim that money from HMRC. The current rate is 25p per pound. So you can increase your donations by 25%.

Good reasons to consider Gift Aid

  • You’re a charity or community amateur sports club and recognised as a charity for tax purposes
  • You receive donations or gifts from UK taxpayers
  • You can set up a system to record people’s information and their decision to add Gift Aid to their donation

Example

Willow Brooke, a pet sanctuary in Sheffield, runs a small charity shop. To claim Gift Aid against the sale of a donation they ask donors of goods for consent and collect their details. For regular donors they now keep their details on file. This is so that they don’t have to repeat their details every time they donate.
